Over the past decade, Action Sports–which encompasses surf, skate, snow and BMX–has grown into a billion dollar industry. Predominantly associated with a young audience, it has an irreverent, urban culture, which segues into the worlds of fashion, footwear and music, its growth has been remorseless.

Given its youthful demographic and the specialist nature of each sport, it was inevitable that Action Sports retailing would migrate online. Route One specialises in skateboarding, snowboarding and inline skating and historically traded out of the high street. We launched our online store in 1998.

Over the past decade, the online business has served over 500,000 customers and continues to experience exceptional growth. Our catalogue, which is published 8 times a year, is the bible for the skate industry and in 2009, Route One worked with Nike 6.0 to launch their first concept store in Edinburgh and Mpora to launch the Big Push.

In 2010, Route One celebrated “20 Years of Community Service” and hosted community projects from its stores in Edinburgh, Guildford, Brighton, Cardiff, Bath and Southampton.

Vacancy – Route One Southampton – Store Manager

Are you experienced in retail management and are looking for an opportunity to expand your talents? We’re looking for a enthusiastic and highly-motivated individual to manage our store and the team in Southampton, ensuring sales are maximized and targets are achieved whilst providing unparalleled customer service in the fashion and action sports retail sector.

About us :

Route One is the UK’s leading destination for streetwear, skate footwear and equipment. Our dedicated team covers a hugely successful online store and seven high street stores, offering the best selection of on-trend product to customers aged 13-30, throughout the UK. Route One is actively engaged within the skate and snow culture and is frequently involved in events, charity projects and media activity.

About you :

You’re a hard-working individual with a can-do attitude who has strong experience in retail, especially with a young and trend-conscious customer base. You’ll pride yourself on managing and encouraging a team to do their best and are experienced in a target-driven environment. Ideally, you’ll have a strong interest in fashion, streetwear and skateboarding and are eager to build a rapport with our customers and your new team.

About the role :

As the manager of our busy Southampton store, you will be responsible for…

• Delivering unbeatable customer service
• Driving sales to meet targets
• Managing and motivating your in-store team
• Organising and planning rotas whilst controlling staff costs
• Recruiting and training staff
• Cashing up and banking
• Store merchandising and brand presentation
• Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation
• Maintaining your store’s social media presence
• Communicating and liaising with other stores and head office

You will need to work a 40 hour week (including weekends).

Salary will be based on experience.

Vacancy - Customer Service Advisor

Route One is the UK's largest independent skate shop, with a successful web store and several UK high street stores, selling a range of streetwear, skateboard hardware and footwear.

We're looking for a Customer Service Advisor to join our small but busy team to provide unbeatable customer service to our online customers. The role will consist of dealing with customer service requests via email, telephone and live chat, working alongside other departments and our stores, processing returns and a variety of admin duties.

A successful candidate will:

Possess fantastic communication and customer service skills

Have an excellent telephone and written manner

Be familiar with Microsoft Office programs and have good experience using computer systems

Be a quick and keen learner, with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Experience in a customer service/call centre background is preferred.

Due to our rural location, your own transportation is essential.

Hours: 8:30am - 5pm Mon-Fri

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £16,000 to £17,500/pa
