Currently, only 3% of charitable giving goes to the environment. That’s a minuscule amount for the immense task of ensuring our planet and future generations can thrive. It’s clear our earth needs and deserves a lot more, which is why two friends, Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, set up 1% for the Planet back in 2002. Since then, the 1% for the Planet movement has grown and inspired thousands of businesses and individuals to support a network of over 7000 approved environmental non-profits, amounting to a massive $672 million donated for the planet so far.
From now on, for every Route One collection product you buy online or in our stores, we will give 1% of the sale to organisations tackling the world’s most pressing environmental issues. Look out for the 1% for the Planet logo on every Route One collection product, including of course our jeans, shorts, t-shirts, accessories and skateboards.
At Route One we’re committed to improving our business one step at a time. We’re proud to take this step and to join others in making a real commitment to become 1% better.

Trees For Life
Skateboarding relies heavily on wood, most decks are made from layers of maple but this use of natural resources comes with a responsibility. That’s why we support Trees for Life, a charity dedicated to rewilding the Scottish Highlands by restoring native woodlands like the ancient Caledonian Forest. By donating to this woodland preservation charity, we’re taking steps to give back to nature and help offset the environmental impact of the materials we use.

The Woodland Trust has planted over 68 million trees planted since it started.
They have saved more than 1,186 woodlands saved from destruction. This means that thousands of hectares of ancient woodland restored, revitalising biodiversity.

Avon Needs Trees
They fundraise to buy land to create woodlands that will stand for generations as part of a mosaic of habitats including species-rich grasslands, wetlands, hedgerows, existing woodland and riparian corridors.
Avon Needs Trees was founded in 2019 by environmentalist Nikki Jones and a small band of volunteers.
Since 2019, they had two incredibly successful projects in Wiltshire, purchasing two sites of 47 acres, planting and caring for 22,000 native trees with the help of hundreds of volunteers from local and surrounding communities.
In 2023, they started planting Great Avon Wood; a 113-acre woodland project in partnership with the Forest of Avon Trust, with 35,000 trees supplied by the Woodland Trust.

Horatio’s Garden is a UK charity dedicated to creating beautiful, fully accessible gardens in NHS spinal injury centres. These spaces are designed to promote both physical and emotional healing for people adjusting to life after a spinal injury.
Founded in 2012 with its first garden in Salisbury (designed by Cleve West), the charity now has eight gardens across the UK, with plans to expand to all 11 specialist spinal centres. Each garden offers a calm, restorative environment where nature, reflection, and creativity play a central role in recovery.
With 100% of patients reporting improved wellbeing and 95% noting positive effects on their mental health, Horatio’s Garden shows the power of nature in healing. By combining thoughtful landscape design, horticultural therapy, and community involvement, the charity helps patients, families, and hospital staff reconnect, rebuild, and find peace in the midst of challenging times.
