Tony Hawk and Birdhouse at NASS

Jul 2015 by Route One

When the press release appeared in our inbox earlier this year, stating that skateboarding’s most famous son would not only be visiting our shores but doing so at the weekend of muddy debauchery that is the NASS Festival, we have to say we were sceptical. To be honest we thought it was an April fool’s prank!

As it turned out though, they weren’t pulling our leg and the Birdman and his associated rag tag crew of Birdhouse skateboarders were indeed headed our way – we simply could not have been more excited!

Fast forward to this past weekend and the man himself, fresh from his wedding in Ireland, was walking amongst the hyped up revelers and port-a-loos around the Shepton Mallet site.

The day started with a 12.30 demo on the street course from the likes of Ben Raybourn, Aaron ‘Jaws’ Homoki, Clint Walker & David Loy. At 4pm the action shifted to the vert ramp as the wind died and the sun miraculously burst through those infamous south western rain clouds. Instead of regaling the highlights of both we’ll just bob this coverage for you right here, probably a bit easier to see just how rad the goings on were for yourself!

NASS has had many exciting and memorable moments over the years (Stu Graham’s dirty protest immediately springs to mind) but they’re going to have to work exceedingly hard to top 2015 – this was Tony Hawk for flip’s sake!
