For fans of London Punk culture, this is an absolute treat. Brixton has worked with the Joe Strummer estate to create a collection that brings 70's punk nostalgia into some unique re-works of Strummer's own wardrobe.
Joe Strummer is iconic for being the lead singer of The Clash, a key band in the history of punk and British punk rock. Their music brought in another level to the rock, adding their ska, dub and reggae influences in their records. Their political lyrics were penned by Strummer and stood up for issues such as unemployment, racism and social decay, speaking for the many young fans that were feeling the struggle in the late '70s.
The Brixton team delved into the Joe Strummer archives and studied some of Strummer's own outfits, lyrics and notes. Using Strummer's slogans 'Out Of Control' and 'Know Your Rights' on their print tee's in the collection reflect the DIY political culture around The Clash. The attention to detail in the whole collection, from the lining in the caps using a print featuring The Clash's setlists to the pockets and print detail on the Japanse shirt, it's a great homage to the punk singer.
"As one of the most recognisable figures in punk history, strummer inspired our brand from the very beginning. Given unprecedented access to his closet, each piece is a genuine reflection of Joe, from his style to his art, and above all his rebellious view of the world. His music and spirit reflect the ideals of the Brixton brand, and this product collection is our tribute to the man behind it all.
