BENEATH THE SHELL
A behind-the-scenes glimpse at the Nike SB Dunk Low "Escargot" Dunk launch with Route One.
Celebrating the latest in Nike SB's Dunk lineage, we decided to source a little French flavour on the streets of London to coincide with the colourway's Parisian roots. In 1896, M. Georges Gaudin opened London's first French restaurant on Greek Street, Le Bienvenue. Gaudin's cultural delights proved so popular that they demanded a larger spot along the street, and loyal patrons suggested a new location deserved a fresh name in line with the restaurant's most popular dish: Le Bienvenue became L'Escargot and the rest is history.
Fast forward to the summer of 2024, and Paris played host to the Olympic Games. It's the second occasion that Skateboarding Street and Park events have featured in the competition and, in response, Nike SB curate a series of shoe colourways to commemorate the occasion, including the Dunk Low Pro "Escargot". L'Escargot graciously offered to host Route One as we prepared media assets for the launch of the shoe, with staff members doubling as actors for this extra special meeting of worlds.
The restaurant provided a seamless backdrop to the short visual story we'd crafted, perfectly mirroring the Sesame/Metallic Silver/Pear Fir escargot-inspired colourway of the shoe. The Route One creative team were joined by videographer Owen Piercy and model Utah Smith, who put together the following video. With a special thanks to the team at L’Escargot restaurant, London.
