Skate Update: R.I.P Mic-E

To most skaters under the age of 50, the name Mic-E Reyes probably doesn't mean all that much. Thirty-eight years after his career-defining appearance in Sick Boys, Mickey's skateboarding career was primarily spent behind the scenes in recent decades, but that should not serve to diminish the legacy of the Bay Area legend, who passed away this week at the age of 59.

As TM of Deluxe (that's Real, Anti-Hero, Krooked, Spitfire and more), the San Franciscan stalwart had more influence on the trajectory of skateboarding than just about anyone else. You'll have seen his face a thousand times in the background of videos without realising it and, more importantly, felt his hand as one of "the dudes" guiding skateboarding over the past thirty years.

Beloved by everyone who met him - and that's no mean feat for a former SF cop - Mic-E was the ultimate skateboarding patriarch, serving the community as the father figure hundreds of skaters needed, an even venerated with the honour of his own signature Nike SB Blazer colourway back in 2005.

Skateboarding has seen its fair share of losses in 2026, and this one hits hard. Rest in peace, Mic-E.

Corey Duffel, a.k.a. the Duffman, is one of the most iconic pros of the past two decades and, in the words of Joe Brook, one of the "top five trauma victims in skateboarding." He's as gnarly as they come!

Which is why we were so hyped to see his Out There from Thrasher finally drop - his is a story worth telling! In his own words, the Walnut Creek native learnt at the spot (I mean, who on earth learns backtails on a street handrail!?!) and enjoyed the slams as "part of the process." He may not have expected to live past 25, so at 42 it's a bloody miracle the lad can still just about walk.

Sadly, Corey is currently injured and unsure whether he'll ever be able to skate again, so this amazing retrospective comes full circle and finishes with potentially his last-ever part. When you consider the damage he's done (Joe Brook was not exaggerating), the fact that he was able to put out such brilliant skateboarding at his age is a testament to his passion for life.

Long live the Duffman (and heal up soon!)

Yeah, yeah, yeah, every time there's a Jante edit we post it. What can we say? We might be predictable, but if predictable means enjoying the very finest skateboarding, then predictable is something we're very happy to be! As always, Fritte Soderstom's Sour-adjacent edits are a thing of beauty - spectacular skateboarding, expertly filmed and curated to the soundtrack you didn't know you needed in your life - so, as always, we're gonna write about them when they drop!

This latest rendition, 5:34, features Route One man crush Gustav Tonnesen, Tyler Surrey, Vincent Huhta and Nisse Ingemarsson as they venture out to the Georgian capital of Tbilisi. I guess Georgia's got spots, as this video is one of the most entertaining in the series yet!

We could go on to explain how 5:34 opens with Gustav (Fritte knows what his audience wants to see), before mixing in the uber-talented crew we all know and love, but we've all seen these videos now, so we know how the story unfolds: Fritte is one of the best filmers, filming some of the best skateboarders, and the Jante videos are arguably the best series of edits in skateboarding today. Predictably, we loved it!
