The BRSB has a modern, vulcanised construction, fusing the sole with the upper of the shoe for a responsive, lived-in feeling straight out of the box and plenty of board-feel. The rubber sole is stretched up towards the toe, sides, and heel, and reinforced with a raised midsole taping to reduce sole-peeling and increase durability in high abrasion areas.
Meanwhile, the outsole retains the classic herringbone ‘Sawtooth’ pattern of the BRSB’s predecessor, upgraded with another Nike staple – a translucent air bubble revealing a cushy foam midsole for resilient comfort and reduced leg fatigue… A modern take on a heritage look.
Nylon and suede were introduced to the Cortez model early on to shed weight from the shoe, and the BRSB adopts these advancements throughout its upper. A synthetic suede comprises the toe box and eyelet panels, providing skate-ready toughness and abrasion resistance, whilst a lightweight and breathable nylon makes up the midfoot.
Nike SB nod towards the original craftsmanship of the Cortez with a leather Swoosh, modernised with a sunken look familiar with their newer models. The toe box also features a smaller embroidered Swoosh, another mainstay of the current SB line, whilst the leather heel tabs of the shoe hark back to the origins of Nike with an embroidered depiction of their first logo introduced in the ‘70s.
These final details are metaphoric of Nike SB’s methods of stepping forward with respect to where they’ve been, and this has never been truer than with the BRSB.
