Welcome to 2026, and We're Off!
Jan 2026 by Route One
2026 certainly started with a bang for Nyjah Huston, with the handrail slam that traumatised the world (trust us, if you haven’t seen it, don’t seek it out - it’s horrific), but prior to fracturing his skull and eye socket, the most decorated athlete in SLS history dropped his 'Distress' Rough Cut to kick off the year.

Proving he isn’t AI manifested in physical form, sent from the future to dominate skateboarding throughout the 2010s and ’20s, Nyjah works - and gets worked - truly putting in the hard yards. It’s easy to assume everything comes easy for him but he takes beating after beating after beating and, at this stage in his career (and with his bank balance), it’s clear he’s in this for the love of the game.

Clocking in at 24 minutes, this is Nyjah at his most raw. If you’re still green to what it really takes to be the best, you could do a lot worse than sit through this and learn what it means to truly pay your dues!

Post-Christmas (and, more importantly, the SOTY run-in), new footage is pretty thin on the ground, so brands often lean on archive material in the early months of the year to keep content flowing.

That’s exactly what Quartersnacks have done here, peeking behind the scenes of Ben Kadow’s Hockey IV ender and giving us Ben’s first-hand take on what it took to make it a reality.

From digging out enough potting compost to bury half of Manhattan to the almost anticlimactic climax of the mission, we’re shown the lengths Ben’s friends will go to so he can get his skateboarding fix.

There is, however, some new footage out there - though we’re not entirely sure how to present this one. You see, skateboarding, like wider society, has changed quite dramatically over the past 25 years. Aussie legend Dustin Dollin has not.

Back in 2000, Baker 2G and the Pissdrunx (Reynolds, Greco, Dollin et al) getting f*cked up on film was about the coolest thing imaginable. Now, it’s hard to be further removed from that reality. While Dollin still showing how much he likes a drink may be seen as staying true to his authentic self, it feels more like the exposure of a man out of time - and a commercial approach that could possibly ring a little hollow in 2026.

That said, the footage from Matisse Banc, Jamie Tancowny, and the rest really is top notch. So we’ll leave it up to you to decide whether glorifying alcohol abuse in 2026 is acceptable… or simply passé.
