Think Jenkem and, aside from the urban myth regarding the etymology of the word, you think skateboarding irreverence. Last week they parodied Tony Hawk's milk chugging mctwist with a breast milk imbibing fashion grind (frontside 5050 backside 180 out of course) and that's far from being the most "out there" article they've produced recently.
Which is why when they do a serious and informative piece like this its juxtaposition against the rest of their content makes it really stand out. Unless of course the overly serious and investigative nature of such a vanilla subject is being used as a comedy trope itself, then maybe we should be laughing at the absurdity of it all.
Whichever it is, we doubt you've given the griptape beneath your feet much thought before, unless you're the griptape art type, so this essay into the history, industry and future of that most pedestrian of skateboarding equipment is actually really rather interesting.
